CB (Citizens’ Band) radio is a short-distance, two-way radio communications between individuals. Two-way means only one station can transmit at one time while the others must listen, while coverage is ranging from 2 – 25 miles, depend on the device. License is not a requirement for CB operation in most countries. With the usage of 27-MHz band, CB Radio provides 40 open channels that can be used for either business or personal usage, with the exception of Channel 9 which reserved for roadside assistance and emergency only. Channels 17 and 19 are known as the “trucker’s channels” since most truckers favored these two channels.
CB radio has been proven as a reliable communication device. It is the essential equipment for most truck drivers in conducting their business as well as for RV and also pickup trucks. It is essential for both on-road and off-road usage.
The origin of CB usage in the United States is during the 1973 oil shortage. During that period, fuels are being rationed due to oil shortage.
