Same as the previous gadgets created by Apple (iPod and its follower iPhone), iPad has become a gadget that symbolizes paradigm shifting. Tablet computers are the Latest Electronic Gadgets that will be the main gadget used in the near future, not only as Gadget Gift, but in many areas, from office to education.
But for this technology ready to be used use by the world of education, and for to the world of education to be prepared to use it, we still need to take quite a long mile. For educational purposes, iPod Touch, iPhone and other smartphones are still easier to use, manage, more advanced, and have much more applications ready for classroom. We all know that the earliest iPad need to go through numerous phases of adjustments and upgrades before it can be as functional as the current iPad. Complaints are likely heard: heavy, charging issues, and unable to multitask. But in time, iPad will become bigger and also more beneficial for students then these devices already mentioned.
Schools have to also note that when iPad started to be widely used, that will be the end of netbook. Netbook was meant to bridge PC and handheld devices, but tablet computers are that bridge. Spending your money for buying netbook just because they are smaller and cheaper compared to regular laptops is a foolish and thoughtless act. Save your money for much more advanced version of tablet computers in the near future.
In addition to long term shifting from notebook to tablet computers, short term but less obvious changes will also takes their place. Calculator manufacturers such as Casio and Texas Instruments will need to stop imposing outdated technologies to schools and colleges if they wish to remain in education industry.
Other industry that will be affected by the iPad revolution is gaming, just with a lesser effects. However they still have to be aware that iPad might be a potential competitor. We hope that it will cause Nintendo, Sony and other gaming companies to continue working on making their current consoles into something more than just a gaming device. (continue reading…)
